In January 11th, 2017, in the Ministry of Culture the farmstead "Caunītes", along with 18 other nominees were awarded by the Culture sign "Latvian heritage". It was nice that at this solemn moment also the representatives of our Ozolnieki municipality participated with their congratulations and support.
THANKS to Ozolnieki municipality and the Council that our activities in such a remote edge of the forest has been noticed and appreciated by the annual award of the Ozolnieki municipality "The Master of his yard 2016" and we had the honour to receive this award during nice and welcoming event at Ozolnieki People's House at the eve of this year’s Latvia’s birthday!
In late May, "Caunītes" were visited by the Chamber Choir "Mītava" that with its tuneful, polyphonic singing devoted their vibrations to the "Caunītes" Strength Place. For sounds!
During this spring we made the birds hutch with surveillance camera and already in late April the first inhabitants arrived – pair of European pied flycatcher (Ficedula Hypoleuca) that diligently started the nest-building work. But it was not too long when the loud uproar at the hutch showed that there is a thorough bird spat and as the result our birds hutch got a new landlord: Eurasian wryneck (Jynx Torquilla). Wryneck belongs to the one of woodpeckers species and unfortunately evicts smaller birds from their nest if founds it suitable for itself. You just have to be happy that flycatchers’ nest still had no eggs or small chicks. Wrynecks couple began diligently to expand the ran and revise the nest of previous dwellers.
Now we are following the life of wrynecks couple. The most interesting moments can be viewed in video files provided below.

It seems that wrynecks couple, however, chose another nesting site, may be the hatch’s ran was too narrow, or may be due to some other reasons, but now the great tit (Parus Major) settled the nest with 8 eggs. The most interesting footage soon will be posted in our homepage.
